I never imagined the journey I would travel when I visited my first Toastmaster meeting in February 2008. I was welcomed with open arms; everyone’s kindness helped put me at ease.

Within a few weeks I presented my first speech … then my second … third … I was having a great time.

Previously when I became involved in an activity, I would completely absorb myself in it. When I joined TM, I had every intention to “just be a member” and “not get involved”. When I was approached to “fill-in” for our club secretary I was very reluctant. I was reassured it was only for a short time. That was the turning point for me. I realized club leadership was the next step for growth and development.

I became the VPPR in July 2008. I like marketing, so I thought what better opportunity to do what I enjoy – market Toastmasters. Then in January 2009 I became the VPE. As VPE, I had the privilege of helping members achieve their goals and elevate our club to President’s Distinguished for 2008 – 2009.

The last 2½ years have been exciting and fulfilling. I have:

Achieved CC, ACB, ACS and 2-CL’s and ALB education designations

Jerome Coleman

My Toastmaster's journey began in 1997, while working at AAI Corporation in Hunt Valley, MD.  While in Maryland, I was a member of several clubs obtaining both my Competent Toastmaster (now Competent Communicator) and Advanced Toastmaster Bronze (now Advanced Communicator Bronze) until December 2001. As a club officer, I served as Vice-President of Education (VPE) and Sergeant-At-Arms.

In 2002, I relocated to Florida and renewed my membership with City Power 911 (St. Petersburg, FL) in November 2004.  I have served as VPE and President of the club over the years.  I have reached the level of Advanced Toastmaster Silver and the old Competent Leader award.

My desire is to see each club in Area 74 fulfill the Toastmaster's mission, while enjoying the process.  I am looking forward to a fantastic year.
