iHOT (International House of Toastmasters) Gains Club 6 New Members

How many countries are represented in your Toastmasters club? #clerkspeaksquad boasts members from more than 10 different countries including Brazil, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Thailand, The Dominican Republic and the U.S.A.

On March 13, #clerkspeaksquad embraced District 47’s iHOT challenge and turned their Wednesday weekly meeting into a festival of food, fashion, and fun. Members donned ethnic apparel and feasted on pelau (St. Vincent and the Grenadines), breadfruit pie and lobster mac ‘n’ cheese (Barbados), grater cake, ackee and salt fish, oxtail stew, pumpkin rice, rice and peas, curry chicken, patties and coco bread (Jamaica), empanadas (Dominican Republic), potato salad, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings and mac ‘n’ cheese (American).

More than a dozen guests attended and were treated to a prepared speech entitled “#MyWhy”, an evaluation and several Table Topics. Members and guests’ impromptu speeches included: survival phrases in their dialect, superstitions of their country, how to dress so as not to be recognized as a tourist, the one place to visit if you travel to their country, describe the native dish you would prepare to win the next episode of Top Chef, and a traditional festival of your country or state not observed in the US or by other states.

Amidst all the fun, President Linda Chapman and VP Membership Jacquie Lawson were hard at work distributing guest packets and scored 6 new members for the club.
