Message from the Division I Director
“Growth always increases your capacity . . . As we grow, we expand our capacity, and with expanded capacity comes increased output. But increased output does not correlate with increasing our impact. Sometimes, to do more, we need to do different.” – John C. Maxwell
As we look ahead to this new Toastmasters year, we pause to thank you for your efforts and to celebrate your achievements of this past 2020-2021 year. A year that saw growth in membership, expansion of clubs and, most importantly, measurable development of members. Thanks to your commitment and dedication, our division was able to add an additional area, thus giving leadership and growth opportunities to more of our members.
I am humbled to have been given the opportunity to be your servant leader as Division I director. I am grateful for the assistance of five capable and competent area directors, in the persons of TM Orquia Sweeting (Area 90), TM Shelmerdine Cartwright (Area 91), TM Dominic M. Thompson (Area 92), TM Rosena Duncanson (Area 93) and Donovan J. Rolle, DTM (Area 94). As we serve you, the members of Division I, we are committed to supporting your individual and collective goals this year as well as being your loudest cheerleaders and motivators.
Like any good speech that can be enhanced by feedback and delivery, so too can accomplishments and life itself; therefore, I encourage us to Reimagine our experiences and our impact upon those whom we come in contact with. Recognize individual and collective accomplishments; strengths that we can build on; weaknesses that we can shore up; opportunities to grow from; and threats that might negatively affect us and others. Rediscover our “Why,” for it is in rediscovering that we will find our fuel source to re-energize, reinvigorate, reignite us when the journey becomes a little difficult or takes us slightly off course.
It’s my belief that with this mindset we will experience evident growth. This will manifest itself in our expanded capacities with our communication and leadership skills. So, as you demonstrate your increased output, I challenge you to ensure it correlates with you increasing your positive impact on each other. As John C. Maxwell would have stated, “sometimes to do more, we need to do different.”
We look forward to the shared growth we will experience during this 2021-2022 year as we humbly serve you, the members of Division I. With God’s guidance, sage advice from senior advisors, and adherence to the core values of Toastmasters International ‒ Integrity, Respect, Service, and Excellence ‒ we will Reimagine, Recognize and Rediscover our Toastmasters purpose.
